Happy Mondays' ex-manager joins Tony Wilson tribute

Happy Mondays' former manager Phil Saxe has paid tribute to Tony Wilson, who died today (August 10).

"Part of me, part of Manchester, part of modern British music has died tonight," Saxe told BBC News.

"He was a visionary in that he helped bands, who otherwise wouldn't have made it, who were a bit out of the ordinary," said Saxe, who worked with Wilson at Factory Records.

"He helped them realise their dreams and through that probably realised himself to be Mr Manchester."

As the Factory Records boss, Wilson was responsible for signing legendary bands including Joy Division and New Order to his label, and kick-started the Madchester scene with his Manchester club, the Hacienda.

You can read Tony Wilson's obituary along with a host of tributes led by New Order and Alan McGee on NME.COM now.

From signing the likes of Joy Division, New Order and Happy Mondays, to being a general support of exciting an innovative music, Wilson established himself as a true indie hero.

Now NME.COM want your thoughts. Send your tributes, stories and photos to tonywilsonnme@hotmail.co.uk and we'll publish them.

And see the NME Office Blog for our Tony Wilson comment and tribute, then leave a comment with your own.

Plus make sure you get hold of next week's NME - on UK newsstands from August 15 - for our special tribute issue to Tony Wilson.
